GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
BEST LOCATION FOR NEW 'OZO' RESORT
INTRODUCTION:
The objective of this exercise is to choose the best location for a
new tourist facility on the island of ‘OZO’. This facility
could be anything from a wilderness retreat with few amenities to a
centralized complex with many amenities.
The island of 'OZO' is geographically varied, with differences in
annual temperatures and rainfalls, in types of landscapes, and in
settlement and development.
PROCEDURE:
There are 6 steps to follow:
- Step #1- Each team must decide the type
of facility they intend to develop.
- Step #2-
Each team must pick the locational criteria for the
type of facility chosen for development. i.e. accessibility,
attractions, climate, supplies etc.
- Step #3-
Each team sets up an organizer (spreadsheet), such as
the following:
Alternatives
Criteria
'Hex' 1
'Hex'2 ----- 'Hex'125
1-Accessibility
2-
TOTAL:
Each team rates hexagons 1 to
125, based on each criterion, from 1 to 5. These ratings
are recorded on the spreadsheet. (ideally a computer spreadsheet
for easy compilation later)
Step #5- Each team scores the hexagons by totaling the columns.
The lowest scores should isolate the best sites for the
facility they plan to develop.
Step #6- The next step is to set up an organizer similar to the
one in step #3, but instead of including all hexagons, pick all 'hexs'
that scored the highest, and rank them. i.e. if 6 choices, rank
from 1 to 6.
